Hi there, I’m Tara! I founded Tara Heather Cake Design in 2010. It originally started as a boutique, cupcake only bakery (The Cupcake Corner) and later evolved into a custom cake & assorted dessert business (Sweet As Bliss). It wasn’t until 2019 where I made the decision to change my business name (for good this time;) to what it is now! To be perfectly honest, nothing I ever chose in the past truly felt like “me” and so after careful consideration, I finally found my true “home” and I couldn’t be any happier!

I am based out of San Diego, CA and make a wide variety of handcrafted desserts but specializing in custom, bake to order cakes is where my true passion lies.

A little insight to my personality…I am an ENFP which means I am a mixture of being intuitive, emotional, extraverted and yet prospective all at the same time. I am free spirited, independent, compassionate and love to connect with others.

I strongly believe in from scratch, made to order desserts created uniquely for each client. With a deep love for traveling, I love to incorporate many ingredients found around the globe during my travels as well as many local & organic ingredients when possible. With a background in health science, a certified yoga sculpt instructor and a daily lifestyle of eating an abundance of fresh, whole foods, refraining from using hydrogenated oils and preservatives in my baked goods is most important! Some of the ingredients used in my recipes include: fresh vanilla beans, organic coconut milk & heavy cream, Bensdorp cocoa powder, and high quality, cake & organic pastry flours.

One of my favorite recipes, is my beet red velvet cake made from organic beets. This was carefully developed after years of wanting to eliminate artificial red dye in my classic red velvet cake. The use of beets + cocoa powder gives a beautiful deep burgundy hue…my favorite color btw;)

I take great pride in accommodating a wide variety of special dietary requests (i.e. vegan, gluten-free, reduced sugar). I started developing these recipes after my nephew, Caleb turned 1 when we discovered he had many severe food allergies and I wanted to be able to bake him some sweets he could actually enjoy without fear of an allergic reaction. With that said, I JUST launched a recipe blog (Aug. 2022), primarily for those with dietary restrictions!

We are Dustin and Courtney, best friends and photographers.  Before we shot weddings together we were a bride and groom.  Yep, dated and married in less than a year!  We just knew we wanted to do life together.

As time has gone by we learned much more important things about each other.  For example, Dustin’s heart can easily be won over with a hot cup of coffee, surfing, chasing our kids and any action movie.  Courtney’s perfect day includes drinking a chai latte, going for a hike with the family and shopping.

After shooting for 5 years in the Chicago area, we moved out to SoCal in 2010 to start our married life on an adventure. 8 years and 3 kids later, we now call SoCal our home.   When we’re not shooting weddings we’re home loving on our three little ones.

In a nut shell, I am a dog- and horse-crazy girl. When I’m not filming or editing, I’m usually hiking with my dog Harley, or out for a ride on my horse Kiwi. It would absolutely make my day for a couple to have their pets in their wedding party (yes, that was a hint). I love living on the Central Coast. From ocean views to rolling hills, and everything in between, we are so lucky to have breathtaking venues around every turn.

I would say my videos are very candid and organic, and never look forced or posed. Our Traditional Wedding package is designed for those looking to uphold classic traditions as well as those looking to create their own unique memories. This package includes use of the venue for rehearsal, ceremony, and reception. Also included in your rental are tables, chairs, plenty of free public parking in a nearby lot, setup/breakdown, and other complimentary features! Our package is a flat rate, regardless of date or season. There are no discounts for partial use. Best of all, there’s no tax on your rental, since the money goes towards supporting the programs of our nonprofit organization, the Western Justice Center. By booking The Maxwell House, you are assisting valuable programs that empower people to strengthen their communities by growing the conflict resolution skills and capacity of youth, educators, schools, and community partners.

Choice of Saturday or Sunday rental (no weekday weddings) with prep time the Friday before your event.

Weddings may use the rental time for ceremonies, receptions, or both. No changes in pricing can be made. Our flat rate applies for any weekend rental regardless of usage, season, or date. Some holiday weekends may have increased rates.

Private use of The Maxwell House from 11am-11pm (12hrs) on the day of the wedding/event. This time includes setup and breakdown. All events must end by 10pm and be cleared by 11pm. This time can not be altered.

Private use includes the living room, dining room, library, foyer, mezzanine, kitchen, garden patios, and wedding suite.

Prep/rehearsal time in the space from 1pm-5pm (4hrs) the Friday before the event. You may use this time to decorate, schedule deliveries, rehearse, etc.

Setup & breakdown of furniture owned by The Maxwell House, according to your floor plan needs.

Rental pickups may take place Monday morning following your event (a budget-friendly option!)

Access to nearby parking lot + free public street parking available.

Dance floor Required for all events where dancing will take place. (Our dance floor is located at the back of the Foyer and cannot be moved. )
